Efficient Space pays tribute to the late producer and MC Ali Omar with Hashish Hits, a posthumous selection from his self-produced discography. Born in Liverpool to a working-class family of Arab origin, Omar drew from his roots to shape a unique musical identity, marked by evocative samples. After studying art and immersing himself in the Manchester club scene, he moved to Sydney, where he co-founded the duo Atone and established himself as a charismatic MC on the house, dub, and jungle scenes. A pioneer of Akai and Atari technologies, he produced four albums between 1998 and 2004 via his label Hashish Studios, adopting an independent approach from production to distribution, even hand-sewing the sleeves of his records. An icon of Sydney's underground, Omar was known for his artistic integrity, anarchic personality, and refusal to compromise. Collaborating with like-minded spirits, he left his mark on his era with raw and authentic music. After passing away in 2009 following a battle with cancer, he remains a legendary figure, celebrated for his visionary talent and indomitable spirit. Hashish Hits stands as a testament to his singular legacy.
