FRANKENSTEIN (LIMITED EDITION WHITE AND RED SPLATTER)
Description
Limited edition white and red "splatter" pressing, first retail edition of 6,000 copies.Since its publication in 1818, Mary Shelley's groundbreaking novel, Frankenstein, has spawned a seemingly endless number of film adaptations and, consequently, some exceptional film scores. Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is the most recent, and Alexandre Desplat's score is the perfect accompaniment. For their third collaboration, following The Shape of Water (2017) and Pinocchio (2022), the duo has conjured an electrifying blend of beautiful lyricism and profound emotion, translating both the wonder and tragedy of Shelley's classic tale.Desplat's score instantly evokes the world of del Toro and Shelley from the opening, which introduces the haunting and beautifully composed seven-note motif of the true antagonist, Victor Frankenstein. This is accompanied by ghostly female choral voices and a deep electronic pulse, giving birth to a representation of the narrative's inherent gothic nature and the themes of life and death, with the pulse serving as a shortcut for the power Victor will use to bring his creature to life. Eldbjørg Hemsing, on solo violin, offers a palette of sumptuous sounds that modulate from the beauty of nature to that of melancholy. At the same time, Desplat composes for Victor's creation music that is as surprisingly haunting as it is powerful, with an almost euphoric waltz accompanying the construction of Victor's macabre experiment, where flesh and sinews abound. The birth of the creature is treated as a subversion of previous adaptations, with a lyrical and exploratory tone, tender and delicate, like the birth of a child. A four-note motif, repeated with variations, represents the creature itself, interpreted gently on pizzicato strings, with the solo piano serving as a counterpoint.
