The new installment in Four Flies' exclusive maxi DJ series includes tracks from Neapolitan producer pAd who brings a dancefloor touch to "Manhattan" and "Philadelphia," both taken from Alessandro Alessandroni's soundtrack to the 1976 film "Pour un Dollar d'Argent" (Sangue di Sbirro), directed by Alfonso Brescia. This pulp/noir soundtrack perfectly embodies Alessandroni's take on the Italian approach to blaxploitation, with the main theme clearly inspired by Isaac Hayes' music for Shaft. pAd gives each original Alessandroni track a double treatment, with a "Daylight" and a "Nightclub" version. His Daylight version of "Manhattan" combines disco-funk with 80s electro elements, while the Nightclub version is more openly nu-disco/nu-soul and incorporates hip-hop and jazz-funk sounds. "Philadelphia," in turn, is reworked into a delicate and soulful downtempo track (Nightclub), as well as a dub/leftfield and slow funk version with a pinch of Arabic influences (Daylight). pAd's brilliant reworks fully respect the spirit of the originals while giving them new life in the present, where the music of a genius like Alessandroni finally gets the recognition it deserves.
