Fifteen musicians reinterpret the tracks and album artwork of 'Figures'. Following the release of the double album Figures (2020), fifteen artists revisited songs from the record that marked the grand return of the legendary experimental pop band (mini-bio below). Forming a kind of multicolored kaleidoscope, these diverse interpretations range from simple remixes to completely re-recorded covers, as well as tracks that build on the originals to invent new pieces. All these re-interpretations are released as two separate vinyl LPs (limited edition), as well as two digital albums. Participants include key figures in experimental pop such as The Notwist (DE), Cate Le Bon (GB), Kate NV (RU) and Vanishing Twin (GB); renowned electronic music artists Felix Kubin (DE), Tolouse Low Trax (DE), Hello Skinny aka Tom Skinner (member of Smile, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's new band, GB), Matias Aguayo (CL-DE) and Stubbleman aka Pascal Gabriel (GB-BE); legendary experimentalist Carl Stone (US); emerging beatmakers Shungu (BE) and ohh_luuu (US); Spooky-J from the band Nihiloxica (GB), and Chicago house veteran Jordan Fields (US). This collection is completed by four re-interpretations by Marc Hollander of Aksak Maboul (details below). The icing on the cake is that Aksak Maboul continued to spin the metaphor of the title (which can be translated as "redrawn figures"), by asking the remixers to revisit not only the tracks, but also Véronique Vincent's painting that adorns the cover of Figures! The cover of 'Redrawn Figures 1' therefore features 16 graphic reinterpretations of the original cover, created by most of the musicians mentioned above, each in their personal style. As for the cover of 'Redrawn Figures 2', it is illustrated by a visual remix of Véronique's painting, created by French painter Hervé Di Rosa. Creator of the MIAM (International Museum of Modest Arts) in Sète, exhibited worldwide, Hervé Di Rosa is the co-founder of the Figuration Libre movement which, incorporating elements inspired by comics, graffiti and outsider art, brought a breath of fresh air to contemporary art from the early 80s.
