French pop
French pop has been with us for decades, with its memorable choruses and lyrics that resonate in our language. From France Gall to Étienne Daho, from Mylène Farmer to Angèle, it reflects different eras while remaining anchored in a universal sensibility.
Each generation brings its own voices and sounds, blending romanticism, modernity, and boldness.
This music fills our living rooms with familiar emotion, reminding us how much French pop knows how to touch the heart as much as the ear.

French pop on vinyl: the timeless allure of Francophone music
From yé-yé to the 2020s: a constantly evolving story
Francophone pop truly came into its own in the 1960s with the yé-yé wave carried by France Gall, Françoise Hardy, Jacques Dutronc and Michel Polnareff, whose 7-inch singles flew off record store shelves. The following decades saw the rise of major figures such as Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy, the pop-rock duo Téléphone, and the unclassifiable Alain Bashung, whose 1982 album 'Play Blessures' remains a holy grail for many collectors. In the 80s and 90s, Étienne Daho, Les Rita Mitsouko, Mylène Farmer and Vanessa Paradis reshaped the contours of French pop, while today artists like Christine and the Queens, Angèle, L'Impératrice and Juliette Armanet carry on this tradition with highly sought-after vinyl releases.
Cult labels and defining waves in French pop
Behind every major pop wave lie labels that shaped history: Barclay and Philips fuelled the yé-yé explosion, Vogue launched artists like Françoise Hardy, while today Because Music and Entreprise champion the new Francophone scene. French pop also stands out for its many currents: the elegant chanson variety of the 70s (Véronique Sanson, Michel Berger), French new wave (Taxi Girl, Indochine), and modern electro-tinged French pop. Each era has left behind specific pressings that collectors hunt with real passion.
Spotting the pressings that make all the difference
Collecting Francophone pop on vinyl also means knowing how to identify the editions that truly matter: an original Barclay or Philips pressing from the 60s or 70s, a limited coloured edition of a recent album, or a remastered reissue supervised by the artist themselves. Record labels, the matrix number etched into the groove and sleeve quality are all valuable clues. By comparing offers from the various retailers listed on Vinyles.com, you greatly increase your chances of finding the edition you're after at the best price, without having to scour each shop one by one.
