Visual Learner does not believe that "pop-punk" is a dirty word, but the Minneapolis quartet makes a conscious effort to emphasize the punk aspects of their sound, with plenty of noise for good measure. Like any Minneapolis band with loose melodic songs, they are often compared to groups like Hüsker Dü. However, the members of Visual Learner have decades of contemporary DIY experience in bands from New England, the South, and the Midwest. It is only in the past five years that the members (Zac Mayeux - vocals, guitar, Avery Taylor - guitar, backing vocals, Morgan Purcell - bass, backing vocals (lead on "Cure All"), Tim Chandler - drums) have all moved to Minneapolis after spending time in Notches, Scrounger, Kira Jari, Billy Raygun, Rag Rage, and Coordinated Suicides among many others.
