After decades of waiting, punctuated by often questionable bootlegs, the unique and cult album by Tumblack, released in 1979 and counted among its biggest fans Antal, DJ Harvey, and Young Marco, is finally being officially reissued for the very first time by Be With Records. Tumblack is a short-lived project, produced and arranged by electronic genius Yves Hayat, and can certainly be considered one of the earliest examples of Zouk: irresistibly funky, it blends powerful disco-funk arrangements with Gwo ka, traditional music from Guadeloupean folklore. Bringing together on two sides the cream of French and Caribbean musicians of the time, Tumblack is a dazzling synthesis at the crossroads of genres, with hypnotic and tribal percussion, pyrotechnic synthesizers, and funky, galloping, complex basslines. Originally released on the French label Barclay, it had become impossible to find an original copy in decent condition. It was therefore high time to do justice to this mythical record, here remastered with the greatest care by the experts at Be With Records.
