Mark Knopfler is back with ‘One Deep River’, an album where modern poetry resonates with sharp guitar melodies to create an uninterrupted flow of future classics.
The album title refers to the River Tyne that runs through Newcastle, Mark Knopfler’s hometown, as a sign that he draws on a lifetime of influences at the crossroads of genres, in blues, folk, rock and far beyond. One Deep River was produced by Mark Knopfler and his longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher and was recorded at his British Grove studios in London.
The band includes Mark Knopfler on guitar, Jim Cox and Guy Fletcher on keyboards, Glenn Worf on bass, Ian Thomas on drums and Danny Cummings on percussion, Richard Bennett on guitar and newcomer Greg Leisz on pedal and lap steel; Mike McGoldrick plays whistle and uilleann pipes, and John McCusker the fiddle, while the Topolski sisters, Emma and Tamsin, provide backing vocals.
