Igor Levit, “one of the most gifted pianists of his generation” (Télérama), presents his album Encounter on vinyl, a deeply personal record that was born out of his particularly emotionally intense experience during the lockdown period caused by Corona. From Brahms to Bach, via Reger or Feldman, he highlights the pieces in which he found refuge, comfort and pleasure, often rare on record. Encounter is a spiritual album which, as its title suggests, calls on us to encounter ourselves and others. After the release of his magnificent complete set of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas, which won over audiences and the media in France and abroad, the German-Russian pianist continues to establish himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary piano and a major artist whose talent now extends beyond the borders of the classical music world. One of the very first artists to perform from home, his near-daily concerts attracted tens of thousands of viewers from around the world each evening on the social networks where they were streamed, and led him to perform at the German presidential palace in a concert broadcast live on German television. At the end of May, his name was once again in all the media for a symbolic performance: to draw attention to the critical situation of the cultural world, he played the entire Vexations by Erik Satie, a concert that lasted more than 15 hours straight.
