Hot Wheels is a project created by Los Angeles-based painter and musician Dan Bruinooge, who has played in bands such as Sylvie, Golden Daze, and Vinyl Williams. His debut album, Sun Blonde, transitions from meditative drone pieces to radio-friendly hits. It serves as a soundtrack for the experience of a stranger in Los Angeles — the excitement of its warmth and opportunities, as well as its oppressive excesses, relentless heat waves, traffic, and its annual fire season, turning the sun a vivid red. It might be best associated with driving a convertible in traffic with the sun beating down on your face; lingering and surrendering to its beauty, complexity, and melancholy. Perfect for fans of Brian Eno, John Cale, Julee Cruise, Felt, My Bloody Valentine, Charlie Megira, and Amen Dunes.
