The renowned Cambridge psych-folk quintet Fuzzy Lights returns with its fifth album, “Fen Creatures”. Following “Burials”, released in 2021 and praised by critics, the band delivers its most conceptual work to date: a reflection on environmental crises that uses folklore and the history of East Anglia as a lens through which to examine humanity’s fractured relationship with nature. The album explores several historical timelines, from Iron Age forts to medieval plague houses, from Byron’s environmental warnings in the Romantic era to the immediate threat of rising sea levels, creating a temporal tapestry that weaves ancient stories together with contemporary concerns. Musically, the quintet, made up of Rachel Watkins (vocals/violin), Xavier Watkins (guitar/electronics), Chris Rogers (guitar), Daniel Carney (bass) and Mark Blay (drums), has ventured into experimental drone territory while retaining the crystalline folk sensibility that has become their signature.
