It’s hard to believe that more than 35 years have passed since Candy Dulfer rose to fame thanks to her prestigious collaborations with Dave Stewart (the worldwide hit “Lily Was Here”) and, of course, the legendary Prince, whose ironic recommendation (“When I want sax, I call Candy”) in the “Partyman” video introduced the world to the young, glamorous and talented saxophonist by his side. Candy has had the chance to work, both in the studio and on stage, with some of the biggest names in music, including Van Morrison, Maceo Parker, Sheila E., Mavis Staples, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé, Pink Floyd, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin and many others. Despite these prestigious collaborations, Candy has mainly devoted herself to her solo career, forming her own band at the age of 13 and touring the world ever since. The compilation “The Essential” offers an overview of all the outstanding songs she has recorded, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians.
