She & Him have unveiled their new single Stay Awhile, a preview of their upcoming album “Classics.” Dusty Springfield’s 1964 love song is one of the thirteen standards that Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, respectively “She” & “Him,” carefully selected to reinterpret on their album Classics. In honor of and in the style of the great classics, She & Him recorded their album live, with brass, strings, piano, bass, guitar, drums and flute, notably for their cover of Springfield’s classic melody. Ward’s guitar shimmers and flows alongside Deschanel’s warm, unreserved vibrato, weaving a passionate version that leaves room for spontaneity while capturing the spirit of the track in its most authentic form. The group’s first two albums, Volume One and Volume Two, were included in the Best Music List compiled by NPR users. Volume Two also reached number one on the US charts in the Rock, Folk and Independent categories for several weeks. Their album A very She & Him Christmas is among the 25 best Christmas albums of all time, a ranking established by Rolling Stone magazine. Volume 3 was released in 2013, and Pitchfork praised “Zooey’s particular charisma, which lets a song hang in the air so lightly without ever coming apart” and “Ward’s ability to give the songs enough space to sway at will even as a warm breeze comes to rustle through them” “Casual yet vigorous, an impeccable style.” The New York Times - “Lovely love songs gathered in a ‘nation’ where summer never ends.” Rolling Stone
