Nils Landgren needs no introduction! After several vocal albums or albums devoted to the Christmas theme, and after numerous productions for the ACT label, the trombonist returns with his unleashed Funk Unit, one of the best groove machines in Europe. The mechanism is perfectly oiled: effective compositions served by inspired arrangements, all performed by generous musicians. An English-style description of this finely tuned engine? “James Brown meets Parliament meets Crusaders meets Funk Unit”!! As its title suggests, the album displays a fine team spirit, enhanced by the contribution of Joe Sample and Wilton Felder (both members of the Crusaders) as well as Till Brönner (the most prominent German trumpeter on the international jazz scene). The album is probably one of the very best in the group’s discography. There is no doubt that all funk and Nils fans will be won over by this new release, remarkable for its vitality and joy.
