A happy coincidence, LOW’s tenth album is being released this year to mark the twenty-year career of the legendary Minnesota trio. Produced by the great JEFF TWEEDY and recorded in Chicago at the studio of his band WILCO, “The Invisible Way” delivers a melancholic, majestic, and stripped-down pop sound that has been the group’s sonic signature for years. One can admire the harmonies brought to life by the extraordinary drummer/vocalist MIMI PARKER, who takes the lead vocal role on five of the album’s eleven tracks, whereas she only contributed to one or two songs on previous releases. The inspired lyrics touch on broad subjects, “intimacy, drugs, class warfare, archaeology and love” in the words of singer and guitarist ALAN SPARHAWK, all delivered in a hard-hitting, committed tone that contrasts with the band’s delicate music, marked by the predominant place of the piano and acoustic guitar.
