Recorded in his own studio in 1986, No End reveals aspects of Keith Jarrett’s music that were unknown until now. Here he improvises on electric guitar, bass, drums and percussion, overdubbing “tribal dances” of his own invention. “Something happened during that period in the 80s that never happened again afterward,” Jarrett comments. “There was never, to my knowledge, any premeditation or ‘compositional’ ambition (in the classical sense of the term) in this project. I let myself go with my moods from ideas of rhythm, a bass line, or a simple melody. But nothing was written.” About the instrumentation: “Drums have always been part of my life in one way or another. I have always been drawn to instruments whose sound reaches us directly, without the filter of a mechanism. Therefore, I think I have never loved the piano as much as drums or even guitar.” With, mainly, these instruments (the piano making only brief appearances here), Jarrett shaped one of his most exceptional albums.
