The third album by The Juan Maclean, a major signature release on James Murphy’s prestigious label (LCD Soundsystem), is one of those rare standout electronic albums. Whether you classify it as electro-disco, disco-punk, or techno, it is above all a terribly current album, completely in tune with its time. The old-school synths and endless basslines blend perfectly with the voice of Nancy Whang (the label’s regular singer) at the height of her powers, giving this album a very classic-disco dimension. You can feel the chemistry between John Maclean and Nancy throughout the record; they had fun making this album, and it shows. Using an old disco recipe, John and Nancy made In A Dream an album with a very fresh sound, not to say avant-garde.
