Priest and singer at the papal chapel, Gregorio Allegri entered musical history thanks to his "Miserere for nine voices," which captivated Pope Leo X so much that he prevented its publication to keep it exclusive. The divine Mozart, at a very young age, was so deeply affected by this moving work that he managed to transcribe it perfectly after only two listens! As for Palestrina, his "Stabat Mater" is in the purest Christian tradition. Known for his sacred works, this one is particularly inspired. This record is a little gem for lovers of sacred music. Willcoks' conducting is clear and fluid. A true musical delight.
