Following the remarkable success and acclaim that greeted her second album Carry Them With Us (tak:til / Glitterbeat, 2023), Scottish composer and smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul returns with a third album, Sunwise, which sees her moving forward on an experimental level while also plunging her music deeper into tradition, folklore, and mystery. In a short time, Brìghde Chaimbeul has gone from being a teenage bagpipe competition winner to a fearless artist. She appeared on the latest album by Caroline Polachek, a paragon of avant-pop, and collaborated with Canadian composer/saxophonist Colin Stetson on her previous album (and on this one as well). Sunwise is a revelatory album, steeped in landscapes, rituals, minimalism, and the eternal presence of drone.
