"So I Am.", released in 2004, is the second album by the quintet of Youn Sun Nah. For this new album, Youn Sun Nah sings in English and Korean, as usual, but also in Hebrew, which is a novelty. Furthermore, all the tracks are original compositions by the band members. This approach does not exclude the standards of the group's repertoire but responds to the desire to assert its personality. This may be what gives it such a personal character, allowing it to escape banality. The music of the quintet gets to the essence, avoids showiness, and prioritizes the expression of the group's imagination, traversing a wide range of emotions: tenderness, sensitivity, boldness, and sometimes mystery. A jazz that is both minimalist and ambitious, which sometimes draws inspiration from silence and at other times relies on the physical energy of the group supported by rhythmic elements or more contemporary arrangements. A movement that feeds off the cosmopolitan nature of the group and is based on the diversity of the five partners. Influences that are quite varied transport us from the West to the East, avoiding the pitfalls of cliché. Youn Sun Nah is still at the beginning of her career, but she is already developing, with her musicians, a unique universe. An approach centered around the singer but where everyone participates in the project. A music that reveals a beautiful synergy allowing each of the musicians to showcase their qualities.
