Description

Originally conceived as a limited edition cassette for Altered States Tapes, YL Hooi's untitled collection, composed of sound appearances, oscillates between icy DIY minimalism, effect-saturated atmospheres, and chamber dub. Like a ghostly transmission, Hooi's voice anchors a set of sound abstractions and impressionistic melodic patterns, while a purgatorial atmosphere permeates the whole. Co-produced with Tarquin Manek, the album was recorded intermittently over a period of two years, between 2017 and 2019. This 2026 edition from Efficient Space is remastered and presented with a new cover paying homage to the Chinese and Russian origins of the Melbourne-based artist.
