With Yatta!, YĪN YĪN delivers its most accomplished album to date. Since their beginnings in 2017 in a dance studio lost in the Netherlands, the Maastricht quartet has cultivated a unique balance between global influences and dancefloor energy. The opening track, “In Search of Yang,” begins with a sample from philosopher Alan Watts and sets the tone: the band seeks harmony in imbalance, true to its name. On this new album, YĪN YĪN delves into the retro-futuristic sounds of Italo disco, blended with Asian and psychedelic inspirations. Tracks like “Kasumi’s Quest” or “Night in Taipei” invite an imaginary journey between a lost video game, urban reverie, and sonic exploration, while “Lecker Song” or “Yata Yata” transform their oriental influences into irresistible grooves. Recorded entirely live on tape, Yatta! captures the band’s organic synergy. Between dance anthems and instrumental soundscapes, YĪN YĪN asserts its identity: free, audacious, and cosmopolitan. “Yatta” – “we did it” in Japanese – celebrates both collective accomplishment and the joy of a dream come true.
