Cello sonatas

Description

Yan Levionnois made his name with his first album, receiving a ffff Télérama for "Cello Solo" released in 2013 on Fondamenta. He then recorded under the same label "Pierrots Lunaires" with violinist Mélanie Clapiès. Guillaume Bellom has an atypical background, as he is a pianist... and violinist. He also received accolades from Télérama, with a ffff in 2013 for a recording dedicated to Schubert. He was nominated this year for the Victoires de la Musique in the category "Instrumental Revelation." This album "Cello Sonatas" is dedicated to the German romantic repertoire, featuring "Sonata for Arpeggione by Schubert," "Sonata No. 2 by Mendelssohn," and, more rarely on record, "Sonata by Richard Strauss." Schubert is again in the spotlight, with the "Sonata for arpeggione." Don't look for this instrument around you, as there are only about a dozen left in the world, the arpeggione being a hybrid between the guitar (played with a bow) and the cello. The eponymous sonata remains one of the major works of the Viennese composer! Mendelssohn wrote this "Sonata No. 2" for cello and piano in 1843, almost 20 years after Schubert's. Mendelssohn started quickly and well: at 12, he had composed an opera, and his famous "Octet" was written when he was... 16! This sonata is very classical, in form and musical inspirations, a little gem from this composer who, beyond his work, helped rediscover the music of J.S. Bach. Richard Strauss was also precocious: he read a score before knowing the alphabet... And so at 16, he composed this sonata! Later, Richard Strauss would turn to grand symphonic poems, but this youthful work remains a model in his chamber music, filled with romanticism and classicism, and where this love of orchestral colors already shines through. Global Innovation If the CDs from the Fondamenta label immerse you in the heart of musical emotion, it is because nothing is left to chance: from the concert hall, through the choice of instruments, materials, and, of course, the rigor of their implementation. Since listening systems and the habits of music lovers differ, Fondamenta innovates by offering you two discs to allow its products to retain their essence on all occasions: The Fidelity CD (Fidelity Mastering) is the reference version intended for high-fidelity audio systems. The Mobility CD (Mobility Mastering...) is a version adapted for listening, for example, on a computer or in a car.
