Concierto de Aranjuez

Description

The Chinese guitarist Xuefai Yang, winner of several prestigious competitions (San Francisco International Guitar Competition, Stotsenberg Int. Classical Guitar Competition, Ivor Mairants Guitar Award.), has performed in concert throughout Asia since her early childhood, and has since toured the greatest venues in the United States, Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, and Spain. Based in London since 2000, she delivers at 33 years old her 3rd recording for EMI Classics (after Romance de Amor and Forty Degrees North). In this new album, her first marketed in France, she performs the most famous work for guitar, the Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo, and is accompanied by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia, the very same orchestra that premiered the concerto in 1939. In addition to the program, a new concerto based on arrangements of 4 pieces by Albeniz by Stephen Goss (who has already collaborated with Xuefei Yang on her previous album); the rare suite España: 6 hojas de album originally composed for piano; and finally the Invocación y danza by Rodrigo that Xuefei played in front of the composer for her debut in Madrid when she was 14 years old. Xuefei Yang has a very clear playing style, with warm and round tones, and has impeccable technique that allows her to navigate the difficulties of these works to extract all their musicality and the inherent nostalgia of this instrument.
