In 2016, with the agreement of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, Xiu Xiu released and toured the successful album and concert, "Plays the Music of Twin Peaks." Out of respect for the cult series, the band decided to end the show in 2018. Following the recent and untimely death of David Lynch, Xiu Xiu received numerous requests from personalities to reprise their interpretation of this iconic music. However, keen to always respect, honor, and draw inspiration from the incredibly high artistic standards set by Lynch, Xiu Xiu explores even deeper territories. "Eraserhead Xiu Xiu" is a new live concert accompanied by a film and a full album. This show uses field recordings, handcrafted instruments specially designed for the concert, an organ, modular synthesizers, voices, flashlights, electrical interference, and elements of concrete music to express the strange emotionality, conflicted sexuality, relentless darkness, and singularly disturbing lunar landscape of this quintessential nocturnal masterpiece. The album is a masterpiece of sound collage and experimentation, with tracks like "Tetra" and "Sleep Synth" oscillating between minimal auditory sensations and grotesque, deafening cacophony. The closing piece, "In Heaven," is a beautiful interpretation of the original composition by Peter Ivers, where Stewart's delicate and soft voice reveals the elegance and magic of Eraserhead, the first film directed by Lynch. The original sound design and music of Eraserhead, by Alan Splet and Lynch, guide Xiu Xiu's expanded interpretation, testifying to their influence as fans and musicians. The original film gives birth to Xiu Xiu's visual universe, through which the audience is bewildered and assaulted by imaginary and unprecedented archival images.
