Both were highly esteemed musicians in their time: one as an organist, pedagogue, and composer in Leipzig, Saint Petersburg, and the Baltic region, the other as an internationally recognized cello virtuoso. Their works illustrate a musical \"second rank\" that shaped the musical life of the 19th century, the quality of which can only be fully rediscovered today. The focus is on the Sonata for Piano and Cello in A minor, Op. 37, by Heinrich Stiehl. Carl Schuberth is represented by two works that testify to his melodic inventiveness and virtuosic approach to the cello: the Grand Nocturne élégiaque, Op. 6, for two cellos and piano, and the Grande Sonate for Cello and Piano in D major, Op. 43, a late work combining orchestral sonority and ballad-like gestures. This music is performed by Martin Seemann and Bettina Messerschmidt (cello) and Mira Lange on the historical fortepiano Streicher \u0026amp; Sohne (Vienna 1864). The historically informed performance practice gives the works a transparent and colorful sonority, allowing their Romantic expression to be fully experienced in all its complexity.","brand":"Wunderkammer","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57489929142616,"sku":null,"price":20260424.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/wunderkammer_stiehl-schuberth-sonates-pour-violoncelle-de-la-periode-romantique_2026_uvm","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
