Love Wars is the debut album by Womack & Womack, released in 1983. It reached number 34 on the Billboard Top Black Albums chart. Steeped in the early 1960s style of Cecil's group, The Valentinos, and Linda Womack's father, Sam Cooke, the album offers a modernized version. Nevertheless, it is contemporary soul that should appeal to fans of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and other artists of the genre. Two singles from the album, "Love Wars" and "Baby I'm Scared of You," were highly successful in the UK, reaching numbers 14 and 72 respectively on the UK Singles Chart. The album was ranked 4th in NME's "Albums of the Year" for 1984, and the single "Love Wars" was voted hit of the year.
