Recorded in a secluded house deep in Scotland, "Fain," the colossal new album from WOLF PEOPLE, demonstrates a band at the peak of its musical creativity. Clearly, no one sounds like them in 2013. Carried by a haunting and hypnotic voice, an impressive rhythm section reminiscent of LED ZEPPELIN's best moments, and a permanent duel of guitars, sometimes distorted and sometimes clear and minimalist, "Fain" and its incantatory psychedelic rock are captivating. One can hear the ghosts of 70s British bands like GROUNDHOGS, DARK, MIGHTY BABY, and FLEETWOOD MAC, but also those of 60s folk figures FAIRPORT CONVENTION, NIC JONES, and TREES. A truly great rock album, on which JACE LASEK of BESNARD LAKES can occasionally be heard.
