Difficult Messages/Clear Vinyl

Description

It would be untrue to think that the members of Wolf Eyes, a truly outsider art phenomenon, have been inactive since the release of the 2017 album "Undertow." On the contrary, their creative activities have been as imaginative and varied as ever, whether in the form of collaborations with veritable living legends, sequential solo albums, viral fashion takeovers, live happenings banned by the Catholic Church, and the usual endless stream of fantastic DIY art and music. The continued realization of a diverse and unique artistic vision dates back to the band's inception in 1998, and 2023 marks 25 years of handcrafted audio weirdness from the Michigan underground. This particular release is a compilation of the best tracks from their "Difficult Messages" collaboration series. The results are surprisingly varied: from the avant-garde rock'n'roll of Short Hands (closer to the boogie of Royal Trux or Sun City Girls than anything Wolf Eyes has done under their own name, working with long-time friend Alex Moskos of AIDS Wolf and Drainolith), to the delay-drenched drum machine of Time Designers (paralleling the raw edge of their hometown Detroit techno 12"s), reviving the electric bass and reeds of Stare Case, reconnecting with original co-conspirators Aaron Dilloway and Gretchen Gonzales (Slumber Party, Universal Indians), to immersive noise blasts with Pulitzer Prize-winning Native American artist Raven Chacon.
