Description

Wilson Tanner resurfaces with Legends, a musical exploration of wine and its culture, born in the heart of the vines at Manon Farm, in South Australia. Where his previous albums captured the sun-drenched torpor of a Perth backyard (69), or drifted aboard a boat on Port Phillip Bay (ii), Legends trades the sea air for the dry heat of the vineyards, the crunch of boots on arid earth, and the hum of workers' radios broadcasting the summer cricket season. Through this agrarian haze, a vivid picture of a working vineyard emerges: ducks, dogs, and lapwings burst in; tractors and quad bikes race by; stainless steel glints in the background. Recorded without mains power, the Manon Farm demos overflow with rural inventiveness: wind, brass, balalaika, balloon, pipes, and synths are tamed with generous helpings of wire, duct tape, and string. Legends is a sonic painting of Australian viticulture, steeped in the folklore and fertilizer of natural wine. In boozy camaraderie, Wilson Tanner presses his surroundings to extract a raw, unfiltered sound, letting wrong notes, residues, and approximations settle in the bottle for a true cornucopia of biodynamic sounds.
