The Wild Classical Music Ensemble is a Belgian experimental rock band composed of Sébastien Faidherbe (bass, vocals), Johan Geenens (digital flute, vocals), Nathan Copienne (synth, vocals), Nathan Ysebaert (guitar, vocals), and Damien Magnette (drums, sounds, and vocals). Their unique sound is a blend of punk/rock riffs, fanatical rhythms, and fiery flute and synth flourishes, over which gravitate multi-voiced, multi-lingual vocals that are as harshly grating as they are comforting. It all began in 2007 at the initiative of Wit.h (Courtrai) with a workshop focused on experimental music. A year later, it became a band, the Wild Classical Music Ensemble. Early performances quickly followed, first in Flanders. Their eponymous debut album was released in 2012 on Sub Rosa. Several other recordings followed: Tapping Is Clapping in 2015 (Born Bad / Humpty Dumpty); Tout va bien se passer / Het komt Allemaal Wel Goed in 2019 (Born Bad). Media attention around the band grew, while their reach expanded. The Wild performed numerous concerts in France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands... For the artistic happening Blood Test (2019), Wit.h invited guitarist Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), who experimented thoroughly with the band in the inspiring setting of sculptor Johan Tahon's studio. Together, they created the art film Hell Gate. In 2022, the recordings were remixed and released on LP by La Belle Brut. In March 2023, they went on tour with Lee Ranaldo. It was a major media success. A new album: Confined is set to be released on October 11, 2024, on Born Bad Records. During the Covid crisis and subjected more than others to the harsh conditions of confinement, each member of the Wild Classical Music Ensemble had created a series of songs in tandem with Damien Magnette. All are dedicated to those who went through this crisis, deprived of their free will. As the Wild Classical Music Ensemble was not allowed to play together for a long time, each member composed songs on their own. The tracks were then sent to musician friends to add their artistic touch. Fabrice Gilbert (Frustration), Arthur Satàn, Nathan Roche (Villejuif Underground), Ava Carrère, Wim Opbrouck, Shht, and Julien ZLDR all participated. Jean Lamoot and Carl Roosens are also part of the adventure, one as mixer, the other as video clip director.
