Following the critically acclaimed 2023 release of the album *Cousin*, Jeff Tweedy returned to the studio to revisit recorded, but unfinished, tracks from those sessions. Months later, Tweedy, again working with mixer Tom Schick, released *Hot Sun Cool Shroud*, six songs that expand upon and echo the beloved sound of *Cousin*.
“It’s fun to have something new to release at Solid Sound,” says Tweedy. “This year we’re putting out an EP that gives off an after-dark summer vibe. It starts off pretty hot, like the heat of the day, with instrumentals that are a little agitated and uncomfortable, and ends with a cooling breeze. There are some songs on *Hot Sun Cool Shroud* that are more aggressive and angular than anything we’ve put out in a while, and a song about love that makes you melt like an ice cream cone into a sweet soup puddle. All the elements of summer, including cicadas feeling gloomy.”
