Claudio Abbado recorded Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 on several occasions, as did the Vienna Philharmonic. Their first joint recording of the work, made in 1972, however, plays a special role in the discography of the conductor and the orchestra, as it is exceptional from the point of view of interpretation and sound.
To mark its 125th anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon is launching a new series of audiophile vinyls, “The Original Source,” which presents exceptional recordings from the 1970s in a brand new sound quality.
Copies in this series are published in a limited and numbered edition on 180g vinyl records and in a deluxe gatefold edition with:
? original covers and texts
? additional photos and facsimiles of recording protocols
? tape boxes
? a text explaining the exact technical context
