Whitney K returns with Bubble, her first album on Fire Records and the successor to the highly acclaimed Hard To Be A God (2022, Maple Death Records). In this album, she continues her playful exploration of the migrant experience, conjuring a gallery of intriguing characters, filled with everyday struggles and various fantasies. Throughout the tracks, she creates a logbook of possibilities, traveling ever further into a constantly shifting America. We encounter barroom rumors, distortions of reality, misinformation, daydreams, misunderstandings, and moments of awareness — anecdotes pulled from an old paperback or a half-forgotten past. Bubble is a cerebral mystery in 13 chapters, driven by songs that evoke the gritty sentimentality of Kris Kristofferson, Jealous Guy by John Lennon, the torments of Eels, and the American gothic sketches of David Ackles. An album that would make a perfect soundtrack for a Raymond Carver book club. Recorded in Montreal, the album is self-produced by band members Josh Boguski and Michael Halls in their home studio.
