RIVAGES DU MONDE FLOTTANT

Description

Wendy Martinez releases a debut album of 9 visceral songs, with a 60's soul, 70's protest song, or more modern pop feel, always in French, recorded at Studio Chien Bleu in April 2022, with Matteo Fabbri. As with the EP, keyboards and organs, Gainsbourg-esque bass, soul drums, and angelic backing vocals were recorded by top-notch musicians, such as Kid Victrola, her accomplice from Gloria, or Josselin Hazard. And violins, oboe, bassoon, or horn joined the arrangements, just as Wendy dreamed in her pre-productions. Perhaps to revive that great era of French chanson, which knew so well how to flirt with classical, pop, or Anglo-Saxon rock. But while Wendy Martinez loves Gainsbourg, Fontaine, Ribeiro, Ferré, Bashung, or Vassiliu, she wants to escape from overly marked references, to create her own cosmogony, in word, image, sound, and voice... The latter, always difficult to compare, has matured since the EP, enriched with soul inflections, warmth, and character. In this album, Wendy Martinez sings to us about her strong women, the world in the fourth millennium, the Great Evening, resilience, or the Metaverse: retro futurism in short. The album's title, "Rivages du Monde Flottant" (Shores of the Floating World), precisely evokes the theme of the impermanence of the world and its representations, dear to Wendy – "floating world" being a Japanese Buddhist term meaning that the things in life are ephemeral and that one should rejoice in every beauty that the present offers.
