Katie Crutchfield carries the South within her. Her solo project WAXAHATCHEE is proof of this, with a reference to a creek near her childhood home in Alabama, which seems to represent both where she comes from and where she is going. After a few escapades in New York and Philadelphia, Katie decided to return to her home state to write her first two albums, American Weekend and Cerulean Salt. Her new album, Ivy Tripp, is more assertive, more mature; Katie reveals more of herself: "My life has changed a lot over the last two years, and I found refuge in writing the songs that make up this new album." Recorded and conceived in Katie's home in New York by Kyle Gilbride, a member of the band Wherever Audio, there was a real research effort involved, including recording drums in a local elementary school gym. Ivy Tripp delves into the intimacy of WAXAHATCHEE. After several sold-out concerts in recent months, notably in London, WAXAHATCHEE has announced a series of European dates with a full band for June. Katie, on guitar and vocals, will be accompanied by Keith Spencer (guitar), Katherine Simonetti (bass), Ashley Arnwine (drums), and Allison Crutchfield (guitar, piano, and backing vocals).
