The wildest album they’ve written since their debut, fiercely combining punk, rockabilly, garage, surf, country, and folk with tension—several styles for a single genre: “an over-the-top rock’n’roll.” During their last tour (150 dates in Europe in 2016/2017), The Wash lived up to their reputation as a live band, impressing everyone with the effectiveness of their performances. The album “Attack of the Giant Purple Lobsters!” cynically and ironically addresses the dangers of nuclear power, in direct reference to B-movies. A concept album about the invasion of giant purple lobsters contaminated by Fukushima waters, coming to Earth to take revenge on the unconscious human race. A musical universe reminiscent of both Ennio Morricone and a soundtrack from the 60’s Batman series, energetically put through the rock’n’roll and punk rock grinder, you can hear influences from The B52’s to Social Distortion, Johnny Cash, or Dead Kennedys. They also venture into styles not yet explored by The Wash, leaning more towards “soul punk.” If some were expecting an album of maturity, this is rather the album of adolescence for a band that has been mature for a long time.
