Cantates

Description

After recording the complete works of the motets by Johann Sebastian Bach's ancestors (RIC 347), Vox Luminis now tackles the complete works of the spiritual concerts and cantatas by the same composers, in which the instruments, primarily strings, play a very important role. In the cantata for the Feast of Michael by Johann Christoph Bach, trumpets and timpani are invited to evoke the battle of the archangels in the sky. To complete the program, Vox Luminis offers the cantata Christ lag in Todesbanden by Johann Sebastian Bach, in its original version dating back to the Arnstadt period, which contains many elements that connect it to the music of his ancestors.
