Description

Born in 1976 into a family of renowned artists, Vladimir Sverdlov was deeply influenced by his grandfather David Ashkenazy, a talented composer and pianist, and his uncle, the famous Vladimir Ashkenazy. After studying with Vladimir Krainev and Arie Vardi, he won several international competitions (including the Queen Elisabeth Competition). He regularly performs on tour and has played with the Progetto Martha Argerich, as well as with Misha Maisky and Mikhail Pletnev. A controversial pianist, Vladimir Sverdlov, with his atypical playing, full of striking contrasts and intense emotions, leaves a lasting impression on his audience. His "Pictures at an Exhibition" are not for the faint of heart: prepare for unexpected sound effects! This recording also reveals the pianist as a composer; his four pieces are presented here for the first time on CD.
