In June 2020, Michael Rother packed his car, carefully including a selection of his favorite instruments and other effects, and left Bevern-Forst, where he has lived in an old farmhouse since 1973 and spent half a century writing seminal pieces of music history, sometimes solo, sometimes in collaboration with other artists (Hans Joachim Roedelius, Dieter Moebius, Brian Eno, etc.). His two-day journey took him to Pisa, but it was not a holiday. Rother would remain in Italy and live there with Italian music enthusiast Vittoria Maccabruni. The two musicians met in 2005 when Rother was touring Italy with his friend Moebius. Fifteen years later, and now as a couple, they embark on a remarkable musical collaboration. In "As Long As the Light," they bring together striking contrasts without pretension, challenging, blending, and complementing each other, and creating unsuspected forms through musical dialogue. These new perspectives shape the sound worlds they concoct and give birth to something unique.
