Violent Femmes

Description

Founded in Milwaukee by singer-guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie, and percussionist Victor DeLorenzo in the wake of the punk implosion, Violent Femmes is one of the pioneering bands of US alternative rock. From their self-titled debut album released in April 1983, the trio set themselves apart from their peers by adopting an original formula centered around acoustic instruments. Performed with teenage fervor, Gano's irreverent lyrics hit home, while the melodies evolved at the crossroads of folk, punk minimalism, and pioneering rock, as evidenced by underground hits such as "Blister in the Sun," "Please Do Not Go," "Gone Daddy Gone," and "Add It Up." A cult album that hasn't aged a day, forty years after its release.
