After three albums released on No Pain In Pop (Lemniscate, 2012) and Company, the label founded by Chaz Bundick of Toro Y Moi (Intro in 2015 and Brunei in 2016), Vinyl Williams joined French label Requiem Pour Un Twister for his fourth album Opal, released in 2018. Through his art, both musical and visual, Lionel Williams explores the syncretism between dream and reality, between earth and space. For him, music is an opportunity to transpose opposing characteristics to their centers in order to dissolve any illusion of duality. Since chaos and disorder are an illusion, Vinyl Williams seeks, through his musical work, to access a new state of celestial harmony. The result of his research, imbued with a mysticism inspired by space-age utopias, is Opal, an ambitious album of ten luminous pop songs that transport the listener on a transcendental journey to the confines of a kaleidoscopic universe.
