After a first album dedicated to Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, and Denisov in duo with pianist Jonas Vitaud, he is now presenting two cello concertos by Antonín Dvořák (Op. 104) and Bohuslav Martinů (No. 1, H. 196), accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège under the direction of Gergely Madaras. The two composers, born in Bohemia in 1841 and 1890, share a strong attachment to the music of their homeland as well as a significant American experience – although the reason for their journey differs: Dvořák was the director of the New York Conservatory from 1892 to 1895 (it is during this time that he composed his New World Symphony as well as his cello concerto) while Martinů emigrated to the United States during World War II and remained there until 1953, successfully composing dozens of pieces.
