The Healing Game was a significant milestone for Van Morrison. After a period spent perfecting romantic ballads that found popular success, Van felt drawn again to the rhythm'n'blues style, tinged with jazz, that had permeated his early works. With this in mind, Van surrounded himself with a new band featuring luminaries such as saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, Georgie Fame, and bassist Alec Dankworth.
The new Deluxe edition includes the original album as well as two additional discs of rare and unreleased tracks, including B-sides, outtakes, and duets with John Lee Hooker, Carl Perkins, and B.B. King. Also noteworthy is the official release for the first time of his memorable live performance in Montreux in 1997.
