Here is resurrected the forgotten lyric comedy of Rameau: in 1760, at age 77, Les Paladins would be his last work presented to the public.Inspired by the triumph of his other comedy, 'Platée', Rameau indulges in emphasis and excess, makes the orchestra shine and the singers leap, with sharp turns on the comic tone, and magnificent sentimental passages. In this fantasy Middle Ages, here is the comedy of characters brilliantly treated as caricatures: the beautiful Argie prisoner of the monstrous Orcan, the Paladin Atis freeing his betrothed, the Fairy Manto unleashing demons and furies, and transfiguring the castle with a dance of Pagodas and a Chinese divertissement! Valentin Tournet makes his magnificent soloists and the Chapelle Harmonique whirl for this last jewel of Rameau!
