Ultraísta is comprised of multi-instrumentalist/producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead), vocalist/producer Laura Bettinson (FEMME / lau.ra), and drummer/producer Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., Atoms for Peace). Originally formed in 2008 over a shared love of afrobeat, electronic music, dance, visual arts, and tequila, their self-titled debut album arrived in 2012, quickly followed a year later by a remix project, "Ultraísta (Remixes)". Sister is the band's second studio album; much of the music grew out of sporadic improvisational sessions, with Nigel Godrich eventually stripping everything back to its essence in his London studio. The resulting nine tracks create a cinematic sci-fi soundscape that is both exhilarating and laser-tinged. Behind Bettinson's warm vocal performance and anchored by Waronker's sophisticated percussion work, Sister stands proudly within the impressive and prolific careers of each band member. Between electro and pop, between synthetic and organic sounds, the project awakens the senses and tantalizes the taste buds.
