It is tempting to think that you have all the answers, shouting your gospel every day with certainty and anger. However, life is not quite like that, and the debut album from the London quartet TV Priest embraces, on the contrary, the beautiful and terrifying unknowns that exist personally, politically, and culturally. Childhood friends who played music together in their teens, Charlie Drinkwater (vocals), Alex Sprogis (guitar), Nic Smith (bass), and Ed Kelland (drums) reunited in 2019 with a need to create. Drawing inspiration from post-punk pillars The Fall and Protomartyr as well as the mechanical and thrilling grooves of krautrock, this is a record that moves with untamed energy. At the forefront of this rumbling musical machine is the singer, an extremely funny, angry, and confused leader. Uppers shows TV Priest openly trying to avoid close-mindedness. Uppers sees TV Priest taking both musical and personal risks, stepping out of their comfort zones and trying to make sense of this increasingly chaotic world.
