Wide Eyed Nowhere is Turin Brakes’ ninth studio album. The south London quartet recorded this new set of songs in one of the band member’s garden studios over the summer of 2021, choosing to let time infuse into the music and mature in a way it couldn’t in a pressurised commercial studio. The result? A softer, groovier collection of songs that weren’t hurried into being anything other than themselves….. Friends would drop by, children added a vocal or two, bees buzzed around, and we sat under the South London sunshine as the music spilled out of the speakers and floated across the lawn. “For some reason, we tend to contrast the music with what's being sung in the lyric, it makes a nice tension: the iron fist in a velvet glove. With Turin Brakes’ classic palette of acoustic guitars, warm vocals laid over super tight grooves, layers of subtle sonic detail, and passionate, direct vocals, Wide Eyed Nowhere creates a sound rooted in the past yet utterly current, and takes you to a timeless place.
