For any British band, the first live session on the BBC is a rite of passage, the first steps into a prestigious club held by legends such as PEEL, LAMACQ, and HARRIS. A few years later, it becomes clear that the material from these sessions is worthy of an album. Listening to those recorded between its very beginnings and the end of 2010, the folk and pop group TUNNG had the excellent idea to make a compilation. "This Is Tunng. Live From The BBC" offers a series of gems, whether intimate acoustic performances or the group's collaboration with the desert blues heroes TINARIWEN on "Tamatant Tilay." These performances reveal the special magic that appears when TUNNG plays live: a gift for improvisation and warm sounds produced by a myriad of instruments that wrap around the sweet voice of leader MIKE LINDSAY. A precious record that bodes well for next year, when the group's new album is expected to be released.
