Dumky

Description

United by a unique complicity that only family ties can create in musical gesture, Denis Pascal and his sons Alexandre and Aurélien invite us on a fascinating exploration of Czech music between the 19th and 20th centuries. Gradually emancipating themselves from Germanic influence, the national composers progressively infuse their aesthetic with melodies, colors, and rhythms from their homeland. Bedřich Smetana is the first to open this rich and promising path, and in his Trio Op. 15, which mourns the death of his beloved daughter in 1855, the darkness is sometimes illuminated by purely Czech colors. In his Trio "Dumky" (1891), Dvořák brilliantly accentuates this trend, with a striking expressive palette and admirable perfection of writing. Josef Suk's Elegy pays homage to his elder, also adding evocations of antiquity, not so far from French Impressionism.
